Club Church
How does it feel to party with God watching? Named after the eponymous queer night club in Amsterdam, Club Church is inspired by a place of contradiction - a juxtaposition of the divine and the blasphemous. For many of the queer community the club acts as a sanctuary of self-discovery, self-expression, and acceptance. However, with this revelation of freedom also comes an awareness of imposed shame. Club Church aims to embody the complex and contradictory feelings that arise on the path to becoming our most authentic selves.
This programme brings together the sounds of a rowdy party and of pious worship. It explores the complex relationship between faith and queerness through music and personal stories. With music by queer composer from a thousand years ago until now, this unconventional trio completely ignores boundaries of genre, style and expectation, to share a very personal story.
This programme is developed together with Andrew Macleod and Rick van Veldhuizen.
